is a constantly recurring symbol or motif in literature, painting, or mythology, though it is somewhat more difficult to understand than symbols and motifs. Archetype has its origin in ancient Greece .It got its definition as an "original pattern" from the combined meaning of its root words archein and typos ( which means original/old and pattern/type respectively). In Jungian Psychology which have mentioned about the twelve(12) primary types archetype, archetype is an inherited pattern of thought or symbolic image that is present in the unconscious of the individual.
MYTHS
What comes into your mind when you encounter the word myth? Does it sound familiar? Well myth comes from the Greek word "mythos" which means story or word. The term myth come has come to refer a certain genre of stories that share characteristics that make this genre distinctly different from the other genres of oral narratives, such as legends and folktales (Magoulick). There are different citations about the meaning of what is myth. Together let us meet and know some of them.
Myths form an important genre of folk literature. Together with legends and folktales, they constitute group of folk narratives in prose. Simply defined , a myth is "a sacred narrative explaining how the world and man came to be in their present form" ( Dundes xxi).
Eugenio, Damiana L. Philippine Folk Literature: THE MYTHS. Quezon City.University of the Philippines Press, 2001.Print.
According to McDowell, myths are narratives that are "Counter-Factual in featuring actors and actions that confound the conventions of routine experience". Myths often involve extraordinary characters or episodes that seem impossible in our world, but "the extraordinary feats and traits of mythic protagonists are possible only because they attach to a primary and formative period in the growth and development of civilization"; thus their various aspects or dimensions are best considered as " organically intertwined". In fact the contemporary connotation of myth as " a falsehood ", often understood as being in opposition to science, probably stems from recognition of this attribute of myth in isolation.
